SPORT and leisure in Richmond may be improved thanks to a council cash boost.
Richmondshire District Council will decide this evening whether to give £150,000 to Richmond School towards an extension of its sports hall.
The move would mean better facilities for the school and for the community, which has use of the hall and outdoor all-weather pitches out of school hours.
The money for the work comes from the sale of land in Gallowgate, Richmond, sold for housing in the late 1990s.
The district council's contribution of £150,000 would go towards the £600,000 project to build the 4,500sq ft extension.
The Government will provide £100,000 towards the work, with the rest of the funding coming from the school.
The council's community committee meets at 6.30pm today, at Swale House, Richmond.
Members of the public are welcome to attend.
