PUPILS in the region will be giving a lunchtime concert as part of a World of Music conference.

The conference will be held tomorrow at The Oakwood Centre, in Eaglescliffe, and will bring together about 100 delegates from across the Tees Valley.

It will include school-based primary and secondary teachers, together with instrumental, vocal and curriculum staff from the Tees Valley Music Service (TVMS).

Pupils from three schools, who are taking part in the Government's Wider Opportunities pilot project, Myton Park, in Ingleby Barwick, Zetland primary, in Redcar, and St Bedes RC primary, in Marske, will be performing from 1.30pm.

Afterwards, they will take part in demonstration lessons for delegates, and the conference will also feature keynote speaker, Sandra Kerr, who is a lecturer in arts and culture at the University of Newcastle.

Christine Cope, assistant manager of TVMS, said: "This will be a unique opportunity for delegates to hear pupils taking part in these projects perform and to see for themselves the enjoyment, confidence, concentration and the very real sense of achievement making music together has given these young performers."
