CHILDREN are determined to make an arts festival a blooming success.
Pupils from Redcar's Newcomen, Dormanstown and Bankfield primary schools, as well as students at Redcar Community College, are growing giant daisies and orchids and creating blooms for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's first "Pop-Up" Celebration of the Arts next month.
The work is being co-ordinated by arts group Bravura, and will be unveiled in the grounds of Kirkleatham Museum, Redcar, for an activities day on Sunday, June 12, featuring local dance, music and theatre.
Councillor Dave Fitzpatrick said: "We are creating a showcase of all the vibrant artistic activities that are available to people across the borough. We want to make our cultural heritage and history accessible and alive to young people and their families and where better than the grounds of the museum?"
Joanne Hodgson, the council's arts development officer, said: "We're confident it can be turned into an annual occasion."
