A TOWN'S community office created out of an old public toilet is likely to fold shortly unless funding can be found.

Kirkbymoorside Town Council was given the shock news by the office's chairman, Munro Donald, who said that its already precarious financial situation had been dealt a further blow when the Government's Learn Direct organisation said it would only be able to contribute £2,000 towards training in the town, instead of the £13,000 anticipated by the board.

As a result, it had a projected shortfall in funding this year of between £17,000 and £18,000, said Mr Donald.

The board had been trying to get Ryedale District Council and North Yorkshire County Council to contribute funding, but without success.
