TEES Valley teenagers enjoyed a ride through pop culture when a team of car converters showed them how to customise their motors.

Apprenticeships Live, an event that promotes vocational paths to university, was based around programmes such as MTV's Pimp My Ride and Top Gear.

Organised and hosted by the joint Redcar and Cleveland College and TTE Management and Technical Training Centre of Vocational Excellence, the show attracted about 150 teenagers.

Ultimate Velocity helped to teach young people about vocational qualifications.

Chris Coupland, manager of the centre, said: "This was one of the most exciting events we have ever put on for young people to help promote vocational routes to higher education.

By tapping into pop culture, we have been able to promote apprenticeships in a way which appeals to young people and helps them to realise they are about more than just men in overalls with greasy rags."
