Belmont WI: ANN Cheeseman gave an interesting talk on her collection of powder compacts, not only the different types and uses but also the social history of them, some of which date back to the Twenties.
Ann became interested in this subject through her husband, who started collecting them because of his interest in the metals used and the mechanical workings of them. Ella Curry gave the vote of thanks.
The Derby Holiday weekend was as enjoyable as usual; thanks to Clarice and Jean for their hard work in organising the outing. Three teams competed in the County Quiz - they didn't win but competitors enjoyed the experience.
The Darts B team was unsuccessful in the final but received a certificate for winning the heats. Thanks to all the members who took part in these events. After all, it's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts.
Two resolutions to be voted on at the NFWI AGM in the Albert Hall were discussed and the delegate will be informed of her decision.
Morjorie Oates, the delegate who attended the spring council meeting, gave an interesting and concise report on the business and entertainment.

Gilesgate Evening TG
THE guild enjoyed a day out to Barnard Castle and Bowes Museum, instead of having a meeting as it was a Bank Holiday. Members were very lucky with the weather and at the museum saw Raphael's Madonna of the Pinks, which was on loan from the National Gallery, in London.
On May 5, several members attended Durham Inner Wheel's open meeting at the Ramside Hall for its 60th anniversary. On June 1 some members will attend the Federation's 50th anniversary and the chairman's At Home at the Staincliff Hotel, near Seaton Carew, Hartlepool. Next meeting is on Monday, June 6.
