A BURSARY named in memory of a health worker who died of cancer has been awarded to a nurse studying for a masters degree.
Anita Savage-Grainge, a community outreach mental health nurse based in Northallerton, has been awarded the Jean Harrison Memorial Bursary.
The £1,000 bursary was established in memory of Jean Harrison, a nurse who campaigned for fairer working conditions for health workers, before dying of cancer.
"I'm delighted to have been awarded this bursary," said the mental health nurse.
"The money will help me to carry out work for my masters degree in psycho social interventions, as I research whether people's quality of life deteriorates when psychotic symptoms are present."
The bursary was awarded at the annual conference of public sector union Unison.
Maureen Beauchamp, Unison branch secretary, said: "Unison is thoroughly delighted that Anita has been recognised for this award. We look forward to reading her published work and wish her every success with her research."
