A COUPLE from Chester-le-Street have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Winifred and Arthur Ferguson, both 87, from the Holmlands Park area, are keen walkers and are well known in the town where they have lived for 50 years, after moving there from Sherburn.
Mr Ferguson, who is still a keen gardener, worked for the Durham County Water Board and then spent more than 30 years at the British Oxygen Company at Barley Mow. The couple have two sons and two granddaughters.
Daughter-in-law Audrey Ferguson said: "They go walking about three times a day. They go near the riverside. That is one of their favourite walks. They are very fit for their age."
The couple went out for a meal to celebrate.
