OFFICIALS at the new Spennymoor club are hoping to discover tomorrow night whether they have been successful in obtaining a lease to play at the Brewery Field.

A healthy attendance of over 60 people at Spennymoor Catholic Club yesterday morning was given details of the plans for the new club, but there is still one obstacle to overcome.

Chairman Alan Murray said: "We still haven't got a lease from Spennymoor Town Council, but we're hoping to move closer when we meet them tomorrow night."

Until the club obtains a lease, it cannot occupy the Brewery Field and start planning for the new season, which they hope will be in the second division of the Albany Northern League.

However, there is some concern in some Northern League circles that Evenwood is going to disappear after 70 years' membership, and be replaced by Moors.

Murray also revealed plans for a new clubhouse and community facilities, while team manager Ken Houlahan also talked about team building.

However, the owner of the old club, Benny Mottram, says that the new club will have to buy the fixtures and fittings from him.

"The officials of the new club haven't bothered to get in touch with me, so they will have to buy the fixtures and fittings, otherwise I'll remove them.

"If it had been the Supporters Trust, then I would have handed them over free of charge."

Mottram is also going to contact the council about the situation with the lease.

Former Tow Law chairman Harry Hodgson was presented with the ANL's Arthur Clark Memorial Trophy for his outstanding contribution to saving the Lawyers after the notorious hole appeared in the penalty area last season, when the Northern League had its annual dinner on Friday.

West Allotment striker Michael Chilton, who scored 50 goals for the Second Division champions, was Player of the Year.
