THE daughter of the elderly victims of quadruple murderer Mark Hobson said she was ecstatic that he would never be released from jail.
However, Catherine Wilkins, the daughter of pensioners James and Joan Britton, from Strensall, North Yorkshire, does not think she will ever know why he killed them.
On Friday, Hobson was told by Mr Justice Grigson that he would never leave jail after he pleaded guilty to the murders of Mr and Mrs Britton and twins Diane and Claire Sanderson last July.
Mrs Wilkins, 48, who lives in Durham, said: "I got the result I wanted. It is nice to have a bit of good news for a change. He can rot for me.
"I thought he was going to get out in 30 years.
"He thought he was going to get out. Now that isn't going to happen and I am so pleased about that."
But Mrs Wilkins said pain would always linger over why Hobson picked her parents.
She rejected speculation that he knew them through a community service gardening scheme he took part in after an earlier conviction.
She said: "I was hoping there might be a clue, but I knew we would not find out.
"He says he does not remember and I think it was completely random.
"There was absolutely no connection between him and my parents.
"To a certain degree, there will be some kind of closure.
"But there will never be total closure because he cannot tell us why he did it.
"We will never forget what happened and will still have that hanging over us."
