YOUNGSTERS received a special delivery yesterday when children's favourites Postman Pat and his cat Jess dropped by.
The characters proved popular with young and old shoppers when they visited The Cornmill Centre, in Darlington.
As it was a Bank Holiday, Pat and Jess had the day off from work and decided to spend it at the centre, meeting their army of fans and having their picture taken with the children.
Centre manager Susan Young said: "We always try to arrange a family fun activity for the Bank Holidays and this proved to be very popular.
"As soon as Postman Pat and Jess arrived they were mobbed by a crowd of more than 50 children.
"We chose these characters as they are have been around on the television for years and even the parents were pleased to see them."
The centre has plans for similar visits during the summer holidays and its next event will be to mark the launch of the sixth Harry Potter book on Saturday, July 16.
