A YOUNGSTER is somersaulting her way to success after winning a regional gymnastics competition.
Seven-year-old Kelsey Garbutt, of The Crossway, Darlington, was crowned North of England Regional Gymnastics Champion for children aged eight and under.
The tournament was held in Newcastle last week and Kelsey beat competition from about 20 other gymnasts from around the region.
She had to complete the floor routine, as well as beam, bar and vault categories to pick up her gold medal and trophy.
Her mother, Lorraine, 33, said: "We are all so very proud of her.
"She has been doing gymnastics since she was five and has been training at the South Durham Gymnastics Club, in Spennymoor.
"On the day, I think I was more nervous than she was. She was really calm and I think that is what helped her through.
"I am sure she will want to enter other competitions now, as she enjoyed it so much."
Kelsey said: "I don't have a favourite part I like the most - I enjoy it all."
