LEADING tenor Michael Bracegirdle will travel from London to star in an opera in a North-East village hall this month.
He will sing the part of Alfredo Germont in a Northern Opera production of Verdi's La Traviata, at Mickleton, near Barnard Castle, County Durham.
John Wise, a director of the company, who has lived in the Mickleton area for many years, said: "This will be the most ambitious show ever put on in the hall, and all local opera-lovers are delighted.
"We are proud that a performer of the status of Michael Bracegirdle is making a long journey to take the stage for us for just one evening."
Other stars in the 30-strong cast are Rachel Orr and Richard Spencer, who both live in the North-East. They will sing the roles of Violetta Valery and Giorgio Germont.
Tickets are selling quickly for the show on Saturday, June 18. Those remaining cost £10, and can be obtained from Mr Wise on (01833) 637227.
Mr Bracegirdle is the second star to announce a visit to Teesdale in recent weeks -North-East-born magician Paul Daniels will perform at five village halls there this summer.
