FOOTBALL-MAD girls are hoping to win silverware when they take part in a gala tournament this month.
The young players are honing their football skills in preparation for the County Durham Primary Girls Football final, which will be held at Roseberry Sports and Community College, in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, on Wednesday, June 15.
Six teams will be in action on the same day that England hosts the semi-final of the Women's Euro 2005 football tournament.
Ouston Junior, Shotton Hall Junior, St Mary Magdalen RC Primary, Lumley Junior, Chester-le-Street Junior and Fishburn Primary schools reached the final.
The competition has been organised by Durham County Council and involved almost 600 players from nearly 60 primary schools.
Helen Goodrum, from the county's PE and sport advisory unit, which organised the event, said: "This final is a great opportunity to see some of the best female footballers from County Durham primary schools in action,
"The Women's Euro 2005 semi-finals are taking place on the same day and, who knows, we could be watching future England stars on our own doorstep."
