A SCHEME to help vulnerable people live independently in Darlington has been praised by inspectors.
The Supporting People Programme is a Government scheme, overseen by local councils, to help vulnerable people live in their own homes.
The programme, which started in 2003, helps various groups, including those who have been homeless, people with physical disabilities, people with alcohol or drug problems and those at risk of domestic violence.
The Audit Commission carried out a review of the administration of the service by Darlington Borough Council and concluded it was "good" and had "promising prospects for improvement".
Inspectors awarded the authority two stars, out of a possible three.
Inspector Julie Slatter said: "Darlington has made good progress."
