PARENTS have complained after their children were told they are not allowed to use a play area at a new housing development.
Children playing at a newly-constructed play area at Bouch Way, Barnard Castle, have been told that it is for the use of residents only.
However, Barnard Castle Town Council has pointed out that it is for the whole town.
Some people have said that residents and an employee of the developer, George Wimpey, have told non-resident children they can not play there.
Town mayor John Yarker and town council clerk Geoff Bosworth have received calls from annoyed parents.
The new play area at Bouch Way is being constructed as part of a legal agreement made when the 57 homes were granted planning permission.
Once completed, the town council will take over the area.
Simon Usher, of George Wimpey (NE) Ltd, said it was possible that children may have been asked to leave as the play area is not completed.
