Green Howards Captain Michael Willis, from County Durham, has been awarded a top military commendation.
The award - the Joint Commander's Commendation - was for his work during The Green Howards' tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2004.
The commendation, which was presented at the 1st Battalion's headquarters, in Chepstow, especially recognised Captain Willis's outstanding work in organising the smooth-running of a camp which included personnel from three different countries. Captain Willis, who comes from High Shincliffe, was presented with the commendation by Brigadier Lamont Kirkland CBE, Commanding Officer of the Battalion from 1996 to 1998.
Captain Willis, 26, was a former student at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School, and was commissioned into the Green Howards in 2002.
He has served and trained with the 1st Battalion in Malawi, South Africa, France, Germany, Northern Ireland, Oman and Belize, as well as in Afghanistan.
Second-in-command of one of the Battalion's companies, he lists his sports as running and scuba-diving.
