YOUNGSTERS had a fun day out learning about vegetables and plants in their community garden.
The children from Bishop Auckland were up to their eyes in mud and face paint as they enjoyed the activities at Tindale Community Gardens' open day yesterday.
The gardens, which were opened to the community by Tyne Tees weatherman Bob Johnson, are a partnership venture by SureStart Wear Valley, Auckland Gate Centre, Groundwork West Durham and the Countryside Agency's Greenstart programme.
Yesterday's event was a fun event showing children how to grow different plants and flowers and where vegetables and fruit came from.
Organiser Mandy Coulton said: "It has been a great success. We had a fair few people today and everyone has enjoyed themselves.
"Today was also a good opportunity to find out from the community what they would like to see from the rest of the garden when it is developed in the future."
