A YOUNG horse rider was given the royal seal of approval after reaching the final five of a national competition.
Although Joanne Little, 21, of Howden-le-Wear, was just pipped to the winner's post in the final of Quest-X, she impressed judges including Princess Anne, and came fourth.
Joanne and her horse, Opaline Van Holland, beat more than 100 competitors across the UK to make the event at Windsor Great Park.
The judges assessed the five riders on their skills in dressage, show jumping and cross country as well as their personal and interview skills.
"I was over the moon to get to the final," said Joanne, who is a riding instructor. "It was very draining at the end though.
"The horse was a bit tired by the fourth day - he really dazzled in the first couple of days, but wasn't quite as fresh by the end. But I was very proud to get so far."
