ONE of the stars of the smash-hit TV show Absolutely Fabulous is heading north to support the appeal to save a much-loved theatre.
TV and radio veteran June Whitfield will launch a summer season of tea dances to support the multi-million pound restoration of Harrogate's Royal Hall.
The weekly dances will be held at the Sun Pavilion in the Valley Gardens from July 12.
They will run every Tuesday from 2pm to 4.30pm until September 13.
June said: "I am looking forward enormously to coming back to Harrogate -a lovely place I really enjoying visiting.
"I still have family connections in the town -my cousin is an alderman of the borough - and I know just how important the Royal Hall is to the community."
The season has been organised by Barbara Simpson and Mike Hine, who both used to work at the Harrogate International Centre.
Live music is being provided at the dances by Terry Wadkin. Admission, including afternoon tea, will be £5 at the door.
