A FOOTBALLING schoolboy whose father died last year has raised £1,100 to buy his team new strips.
Angus Bennett, ten, was moved to act after the tragedy in December, when his father Ewen, 53, fell from a roof while working on a chimney.
A pupil at Ingleby Arncliffe Primary School, near Northallerton, Angus wrote to local businesses asking for sponsorship for the team, of which he is the goalkeeper.
The funds he managed to raise have gone on the new outfits and other equipment, including corner flags and goalposts.
His mother, Hazel, a teaching assistant at the school, said: "I am very proud of him. We thought he might get a couple of hundred pounds, but we did not think we would raise £1,100."
The biggest sponsor was DMG Controls, on Teesside, which gave £600.
