MORE than 100 county council workers have pledged to protect the environment.
The pledges are in support of World Environment Day, which takes place tomorrow.
They have agreed to recycle waste, such as paper, cans and cardboard, reduce their use of electricity by fitting low-energy lightbulbs and only use central heating when needed.
Staff also pledged to walk and cycle more, make more use of public transport, reduce water use and help wildlife by feeding birds.
Councillor Clare Wood, executive member for environmental services, said: "The county council has systems in place to avoid harming the environment from how it operates and delivers services.
"During their worklife, employees follow these systems, but it is good to know so many of our staff are also committed to protecting the environment when away from work."
