A WIFE almost unwittingly had her husband locked up.
John Hall's wife bought him an air rifle not knowing it was more powerful than allowed by law.
The rifle was to be used by Mr Hall, 38, in his membership of the Association of Shooting and Conservation.
He was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon,-which carries a mandatory five-year jail sentence, but the charge was dropped at Newcastle Crown Court.
Hall, of Monument Terrace, Penshaw, Tyne and Wear, admitted possession of a firearm without a certificate and was given an absolute discharge.
