A GARDEN centre is to be built in Derwentside with a restaurant and children's play area.
The development will take place at Lintzford Bridge Nursery, in Lintzford, between Rowlands Gill and Ebchester.
Buildings are to be demolished and a single-storey unit will be erected. It will house the eatery, a garden nursery, an office and toilets.
The centre will also have themed garden displays, landscaped meadow walks, wildflower areas and a pond.
The area will be monitored by security cameras.
Derwentside District Council received four letters regarding the scheme, one in support and three raising road safety concerns.
Principal planning officer Fiona Clarke said: "The proposed development would comply with the local plan policy and is to be welcomed."
It was recently given planning approval by the council's development control committee.
