POLICE, fire crews and residents came together last week to stage a village fun day and raise awareness of community safety issues.
The event was staged at the Community Centre in the village of Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, on Wednesday - as part of the Pelton StreetSafe Initiative.
Among the events on the day were demonstrations from the fire service to show how to deal with chip pan fires and rescuing a casualty from a mock-up of a road accident.
Meanwhile, police officers demonstrated their fingerprint skills, the use of mobile closed-circuit television cameras and brought along police dogs Jet and Ben.
There were also magic shows and entertainment for the children, as well as games and refreshments.
The fun day was organised by the Chester-le-Street and Durham Community Safety Partnership and Chester-le-Street Police Community Beat Team.
