THREE people were taken to hospital after a six-vehicle crash on an A1 slip road in the Gosforth area of Newcastle yesterday afternoon. The accident, near Seaton Burn, happened at about 5.40pm and involved a lorry and five other vehicles. Firefighters had to cut a 52-year-old female driver free from a Ford Ka. She was given oxygen and taken to Newcastle General Hospital with back and neck injuries. A 25-year-old man with leg and arm injuries and a 43-year-old man with a back injury were taken to the same hospital. Police said the injuries were not serious. The slip road was closed for about an hour.
Diver named
POLICE have named the diver who has been missing off the Northumberland coast since Sunday. He is Nicholas George Jackson, 25, of Tamworth Road, Newcastle, who was described by Northumbria Police as an experienced recreational diver. He disappeared near Coquet Island, Amble.
