A SCHOOL in Darlington has been praised by Ofsted inspectors for helping pupils achieve high standards in English and maths.
The report says Heathfield Primary School, in The Broadway, off Yarm Road, is a good school.
It praises headteacher Dave Hayllar for his good leadership and governors and staff for their commitment to the school.
Inspectors found that all pupils, including those with special educational needs, achieve well and standards in English and maths are above average by the end of year six.
Two main weaknesses were identified in the report. These were that too few boys get high marks in English, maths and science and the teaching of religious education is not consistent with some pupils under-achieving while others achieve well.
It said the school has improved since the last inspection.
Mr Hayllar said: "This is recognition of the hard work and high achievements that the children and the staff attain."
Chair of Governors, Maureen Horton, said: "I am delighted that the hard work of staff, parents, governors and children has been recognised in this report and feel that the school is going from strength to strength."
