YOUNGSTERS in Bishop Auckland are sowing the seeds for a bright future as they renovate a community allotment.
Volunteers from the Prince's Trust started work on Monday at Henknowle Allotments on South Church Road, Bishop Auckland, to improve the land and grow vegetables.
The work is part of a programme called Team, which is a 12-week initiative based around a community project, aimed at raising skills and qualifications among 16 to 25 year-olds. The site will be completed next Monday.
The allotments will eventually be handed over to Henknowle Youth Centre so youngsters can learn about healthy eating.
Team leader Gillian Hutchinson said: "This project prepares them and improves their skills.
"They can also gain City and Guilds Profile Achievement awards and other key skills.
"We try to give them all responsibilities and share the work. The people at the allotment have been smashing."
