A MURAL depicting images of a town in years gone by is to be erected on the site of a former cinema later this month.
The 80ft by 8ft design will be assembled where the Tivoli Cinema used to stand in Spennymoor town centre, near the town library, on Saturday, June 18.
It has been funded by Sedgefield Borough Council's Single Regeneration Budget and was painted by North-East artist Douglas Hunter.
It will be in situ until the site is redeveloped, and will feature images chosen by the town's residents, including a western movie theme along with a drawing of a film director with clapperboard.
The mural's launch day will include a band, fair rides and street entertainment, and it is hoped to attract even more people than the cinema's longest queue - to see Cliff Richard's Summer Holiday.
Sedgefield Borough Council's town centre manager Wendy Benson: "This is an eye-catching mural which will brighten up an area waiting for future development.
It is certain to bring back a lot of memories to people who used to attend the Tivoli."
