FOUR community groups in Darlington have benefited from grants from the National Lottery Awards for All Scheme.
The groups won almost £20,000 between them to help pay for small projects.
Last month, the Branksome and Cockerton West Community Partnership was awarded £2,900.
The money will fund a one-day community event to promote the work of the partnership and encourage people in Branksome and Cockerton West to improve their area.
The 13th Darlington Scout Group was given £4,395 to help fund a trip to Canada for the Scouts and three of their leaders. While in Canada, the group will work on environmental projects and spend time with Native American Indians.
The Skerne Park Community Enterprise Association was awarded £4,788 to set up a co-operative fruit and vegetable shop on the estate.
It is hoped the shop will encourage people in Skerne Park to eat a more healthy diet as fresh food will be on the doorstep and cheaper to buy.
And the Sadberge Village Hall Association was awarded £5,000 to revamp the village hall heating system and connect to the Internet.
The groups received advice on their applications from Darlington Borough Council.
David Lyonette, cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: "Help and advice is available from the council and I would urge anyone who thinks their group may be eligible for funding to get in touch." To find out more visit www.darlington.gov.uk
