FISHERMEN at Saltburn are pleased to know that the borough council is carrying out a blitz of unlicensed tractors and boats at the lower promenade boat park.
"The tractors with council notices on them are an eyesore," said Ron Batchelor, 65, of Brotton, whose boat has a permit.
"They need to get rid of the wrecks which have been dumped. We are pleased a blitz is being carried out."
A Redcar and Cleveland Council spokesman said monitoring was carried out regularly. "We are trying to trace the owners of three tractors, two in a bad state of repair and possibly dumped some time ago.
"We are taking legal advice about their removal.
"The council will continue to police the use of the spaces carefully.
"The aim is to ensure everyone is using them on the same terms and that spaces are not being taken up by abandoned and unlicensed vehicles."
The spokesman said the annual permit charge was £77 or £113, depending on size.
On Saturday morning, a D&S Times reporter counted 19 tractors and 16 boats in the official boat park.
Two tractors had notices attached to them saying that they should be removed forthwith.
A further six tractors and five boats were berthed on the beach adjoining the boat park. Owners said they were not charged for parking there.
