A TEENAGE girl was last night fighting for her life after plunging more than 30ft from the attic window of her home.
Kimberly Dixon, 16, suffered horrific injuries when she fell through the open top-floor window of the Greenbank Road property, in Darlington, at about 9.30pm on Thursday.
Her fall was witnessed by three other children - her 14-year-old brother and two teenage friends - who were in the house at the time.
Her mother, Clair, found her lying unconscious outside and coughing blood.
Kimberly, a pupil of Carmel RC Technology College who was sitting her GCSEs, was rushed to Darlington Memorial Hospital with injuries including a fractured skull, broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, a broken femur and numerous internal injuries.
Last night, she remained in intensive care, where her condition was described as critical. Her parents were understood to be at her bedside.
Doctors hope that when Kimberly shows signs of recovery she can be moved to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for specialist treatment.
The three children who saw the incident were said to be shocked. Officers are not treating the incident as suspicious, and the police accident investigation team was at the property yesterday morning.
Friends and neighbours of the family in Greenbank Road yesterday reacted with shock to what happened.
One neighbour, a family friend, said:"Kimberly is really nice, just a normal kid, and this has come as a big shock to everyone. She was outside on Thursday afternoon washing the car, we were just speaking to her then. We hope she'll get better really soon."
