PUPILS put their cycling skills to the test over the weekend at a new inter-schools competition.
Bike Trax 05 was held at Summerhill, a 100-acre country park on the outskirts of Hartlepool, on Saturday.
The competition was aimed at year five pupils, and 15 of the town's primary schools each entered a four-strong team.
The event was a joint initiative between Hartlepool Council's Road Safety Team and staff at Summerhill, and was designed to promote safety and good cycling practice.
Children took part in a BMX and cross-country race, a controlled cycle skills course, a cycling treasure trail and a road safety quiz for the event.
Road safety officer Paul Watson said: "This event enabled us to get the safety message across to a large number of youngsters, while also highlighting the fun that can be gained from cycling."
