A NORTH Yorkshire runner competed in yesterday's Edinburgh Marathon.
Robert Hall, from Castle Bolton, in Wensleydale, took part in the race to raise funds for international charity the Bible Society.
Mr Hall hopes to raise £500 to support the society's work to promote the book.
He said: "I believe that the work of the Bible Society is vital to make the Bible available and accessible in this country and overseas."
The Bible Society's head of fundraising, Ian McKay, paid tribute to the work of Mr Hall and people like him.
He said: "Our work is only possible through the generosity of our supporters and volunteers."
Mr Hall worked as a doctor and general surgeon in York for nearly 30 years and is a former president of the York Acorn Runners.
He has run in five marathons and also completed the gruelling Karrimor two-day fell race.
