A PROMOTER who has brought two punk music legends to the region is planning a third gig featuring one of the genre's best-known bands.
The Stranglers found fame during the heyday of punk with their first two albums and went on to have a string of singles successes with songs including Golden Brown.
The band, who have sold more than three million records, now feature Baz Warne, from Sunderland, on guitar.
They will be playing at the 1,200-capacity Manor Quay, in Charles Street, Sunderland, at 7.30pm on Saturday, August 27.
Promoter Jon Connor has staged two successful gigs at Dunelm House, Durham's Student Union, featuring The Damned and the Buzzcocks.
He is planning to hold further events at the venue, which years ago was a regular stop for touring band.
Mr Connor said: "The Stranglers are absolutely massive live. They tend to play big theatres and it's usually a sell-out. They are well known for their invigorating live performances.
"Durham and Sunderland have been missed off the gig circuit for years. We have these two great venues and no one has been playing them.''
Tickets cost £16.50, plus booking fee, and are available by calling the credit card hotline on 0191-383 0745 or from the website www.gigbox.co.uk
