SPORTING students will provide coaching for children from primary schools during a fun afternoon tomorrow.
About 140 children from five schools will receive coaching from Team Durham - the organisation that includes some of Durham University's top sportsmen and women - during a Big Fun Sports Day.
Children from Bowburn Junior, Ludworth Primary, Sherburn Hill Primary, Ushaw Moor Junior and West Rainton Primary schools will have a chance to try their hand at tennis, hockey, rugby, netball, basketball and cricket at the Graham Sports Centre, Maiden Castle, Durham City.
There will also be demonstrations by experts from university clubs specialising in less well-known sports, including archery, fencing, trampolining, volleyball and even Frisbee.
The aim of the day is to promote a wide variety of sports, especially introducing children to new activities.
After the children leave, the students will hold a series of sporting events to raise money for the schools to spend on sports equipment.
The fundraising aim is to be able to donate about £200 to each of the schools involved.
Some of the cash will also be donated to Sport in Action Zambia, a foundation set up by Team Durham and adopted as its official charity.
