CHARITY was the winner when an annual golf competition was staged at a Durham golf club.
The Mount Oswald Ladies Open Golf Competition, held at Mount Oswald Golf Club, in aid of Macmillan Nurses, was again a success, raising £1,300 for the nursing service for cancer sufferers.
It attracted nearly 200 competitors and the top prize, the McKeag Trophy, was won by Maureen Dempster and Lyn McPherson, of Durham City Golf Club.
Course owner Clive McKeag and Maureen Rutter, the cancer charity's northern director, presented the prizes.
Margaret Dineley, who organised the event with Elaine Stancliffe, said: "Many of the ladies who played have returned every year to play in the event, which is sponsored by many local and national companies and individuals.
"We have been running the competition for ten years now and we have raised £15,000 for the charity, whose regional chairman is Clive McKeag, the owner of St Oswald.''
Mrs Dineley, membership secretary of the ladies section, said that the section was on the look-out for new women players to join them, including beginners.
