Scores of volunteers are helping to brighten up neighbouring east Durham villages of Horden and Easington Colliery ready for Northumbria in Bloom judges.
Co-ordinated by the Acumen Community Enterprise Development Trust, villagers are carrying out litter picks, putting up hanging baskets and creating a beach garden in Fifth Street, Horden, as part of the entry bid.
