A SCOUT group in County Durham has opened a copse and conservation site in memory of two former leaders who died of cancer last year.
The Heighington Baden Powell Scouts planted the copse in a corner of the village playing field in memory of Andrew Muckley and Natasha Wilson.
The copse is designed to be a living memory to the two former leaders.
On Sunday, the group and villagers enjoyed a grand open day, a strawberry fayre and car boot sale.
There was a short service of dedication followed by tree planting by Stella Robson, the mayor of Darlington.
Mr Muckley is fondly remembered by many ex- Scouts, now young adults, following 30- years of association with Heighington Scout group.
Ms Wilson was also much-loved as a Beaver leader with Aycliffe Baden Powell Scout Group, before joining Heighington Scouts where she continued to work with Beavers, aged five to seven years old, as well as being a scout leader.
