POLICE are appealing for an elderly couple who may have witnessed an assault on three girls to come forward.
The girls - two aged 13 and one aged 14 - were in Appleby, in Cumbria, on the afternoon of Sunday, June 5.
The three girls were said to have been harassed by a group of youths by the riverside and the couple intervened in an attempt to scare the group off. The girls were assaulted soon afterwards.
The couple told the girls they were from the North-East and that they were leaving Appleby on Monday, June 6. The man wore a flat cap and both the man and woman wore overcoats.
