TWO teenagers injured in a car crash that killed their friend are still seriously ill in hospital.
The two 19-year-olds were taken to hospital on Sunday night after the crash on the A177 Durham Road, in which their friend, barman Craig Large, died.
One was taken to University Hospital of North Tees with severe chest injuries, and was described as stable in the intensive treatment unit yesterday.
The other is stable in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, where he is being treated for serious head injuries.
Mr Large, 21, of Cheviot Crescent, Billingham, was airlifted to hospital after the crash, near Thorpe Thewles, Stockton, at about 10.30pm on Sunday, but died soon afterwards.
His family are said to be devastated by his death, and described him as "strong, independent and free-spirited".
The barman, who worked at the Purple Onion bar and restaurant in Middlesbrough, lived with his fiance, Maria.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "We are still appealing for anyone who saw the accident or who saw the MG ZR Craig was driving just prior to the accident to talk to police.
"They could hold vital information very relevant to the police investigation."
Anyone with information about the crash, which happened near Middlefield Farm bus stop, is asked to call PC Sharon Smith on (01642) 301558.
