AN inquest heard a North-East man died following a sustained, violent attack.
Keith Philpott was found gagged and bound with horrific head, facial and abdominal injuries at his home in Axbridge Court, High Grange, Billingham, in March.
The 36-year-old, who had learning difficulties, endured a prolonged beating, suffering "spectacular" injuries, according to Home Office pathologist James Sunter. He said: "It is physically possible that the assault took place over a period of time and could have gone on for hours."
Teesside Coroner Michael Sheffield accepted the evidence and adjourned the inquest until legal proceedings are completed. He concluded Mr Philpott died as a result of the assault and stab wounds to the abdomen.
Sean Swindon, 24, of no fixed address, and Michael Peart, 21, of Eamont Road, Norton, are both charged with murder and are to appear before Teesside Crown Court on Friday.
