A TREASURE trove of historic photographs has been uncovered at a Redcar social club.
Cadets of the Air Training Corps 2394 East Cleveland Squadron were helping to clear out an old storage cupboard at the Royal Air Force Association Club when they discovered hundreds of photographs of early aeroplanes from both world wars.
Dozens of the pictures were framed and once hung on the walls of the club. Hundreds more were filed away in albums and scrapbooks.
When the cadets heard that the whole lot was about to be dumped, they suggested selling them to raise money for the RAFA, which takes care of former members of the RAF.
Alan Fowles, chairman of the cadet squadron, said: "We know that there are folk who collect these old photographs, so we decided to sort them out and try to raise some funds for a very worthwhile charity."
The collection will be offered for sale at Guisborough town fair on Sunday on the RAFA and ATC stall.
