NEW childminders in County Durham are to get a helping hand during the first year of their career.
SureStart County Durham has developed a Link Childminder scheme, which gives new childminders the chance to receive help and support from a more experienced person.
Under the scheme, childminding support co-ordinator Karen Milner will work with potential childminders through the registration process, and once registered they will be able to link with another childminder.
Kirsty Wilkinson, Durham County Council's senior early years adviser, said: "Experienced childminders in the county have often said that in their early days they would have really appreciated the support of experienced childminders. Until now, that service has not been available."
Experienced childminders, who would like to become Link childminders, or newly registered childminders seeking support, should contact Ms Milner on (01740) 664019.
