FORMER policeman George Ditchburn, from Teesside, has been appointed business development manager for Northern Aviation, an air charter company based at Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Durham-born Mr Ditchburn, who now lives in Billingham, served in the Army before spending 30 years with Cleveland Police in a variety of roles, including firearms instructor and observer for fixed and rotary wing air support.
A keen flier, he spent much of his spare time helping at Cleveland Flying School, until he was spotted by Craig McLeod, managing director of its parent company, Northern Aviation.
Mr McLeod needed someone who could fly and be an administrator.
Mr Ditchburn said: "I am an organised person and I enjoy working with people, so when the opportunity arose to combine this with my long-time interest in flying, I jumped at the chance."
