The head of the agency charged with bringing prosperity back to the region has received the royal seal of approval.
HRH Prince Charles will today name One NorthEast chairman Margaret Fay as his ambassador for the North-East.
She receives the accolade for her work with Business in the Community (BITC).
Prince Charles, who is president of BITC, said: "Margaret was a founder member of Business in the Community's regional leadership team and has campaigned passionately and with great energy, on behalf of the North-East.
"I am particularly grateful for Margaret's leadership and drive, which has achieved great things."
Ms Fay began her career with Tyne Tees Television in 1981 in the company's finance department, quickly rising through the ranks to eventually take over as managing director and general manager in 1997. Born and raised in South Tyneside, she still lives in the borough.
"Corporate responsibility is an essential part of business success," she said.
"I am honoured that it is believed that my leadership and commitment to the region has created a positive impact, both inside the organisations I have worked for and on wider society."
The Prince of Wales' Ambassadors Award is given to individuals whose leadership and commitment to responsible business practice and the actions they have taken personally have created a positive impact both inside their company and on wider society.
Alan Clarke, One NorthEast chief executive, said: "Margaret's appointment as an ambassador for BITC in the North East is thoroughly deserved and the story of her rise to the top in the region is an inspiration.
"During her career in the North-East, Margaret has established strong relationships with the region's business and political communities, providing leadership whilst retaining the human touch and a real passion for North-East England which comes across to everyone she meets."
