MEMBERS of a team of performers who share their skills with other children have been presented with an award.
The Jackass Theatre Group, from Crook, was hailed as the region's Millennium Volunteer of the Year in the arts category at a ceremony in London.
Through the Millennium Volunteers scheme, the group holds drama workshops and activities that encourage youngsters to become stronger performers, gain confidence and improve communication.
The 11 members have also have made their own film. Last year, their summer Ramayana drama project at Wolsingham School and Community College generated awareness of Asian culture and earned them the Philip Lawrence award for outstanding citizenship. They were also among 1,000 young people at a four-day Big Youth Theatre Festival in Epping Forest, which uses drama to raise awareness of environmental issues.
Gemma Thompson and Robert Galbraith were presented with the award by MP Maria Eagle.
