COMMUNITY leaders are taking to the streets of Shildon next week to look at ways of cleaning up the town.
Residents are invited to go along and talk to the group as they walk around the Redworth Road area next Wednesday morning.
Police and councillors will be joined by representatives from Groundwork and Streetscene in the Shildon Community Safety initiative, which aims make the streets in the town safer for residents.
The group has taken part in a "walkabout" in the Black Boy Path area of the town, which leads to the railway station, to identify areas that may need work and a similar exercise is planned on Wednesday from 10am.
Sara Collins, community safety co-ordinator, said: "This is a way of trying to reduce anti-social and nuisance behaviour. The idea is if we can clean up areas it may encourage people to take pride in the town."
She said that more walkabouts were being planned and encouraged residents to have their say by telling members of the group what improvements they would like to see.
