A Derwentside school is taking part in a residential healthy eating and exercise week.
Year 11 pupils from St Bede's RC Comprehensive School, in Lanchester, will visit Coventry University.
They will learn about food, healthy eating and careers in the health industry. You Are What You Eat has been funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and is designed to inspire young people to go into higher education.
The pupils will stay on campus throughout the week and live the live of a Cov- entry University student.
They will attend lectures, complete assignments and take part in a varied social programme designed to show them all aspects of student life.
Student ambassadors will work with pupils and help make their time at university as enjoyable as possible.
Summer school co-ordinator Charlotte Brown said: "The pupils involved in the summer school have all demonstrated the ability to move into higher education, but have little or no background of higher education in their family. During their time at Coventry University, we aim to show them exactly what life is like as a student and foster a passion for higher education.
"It is great being able to see the change in these young people when they realise exactly what they are capable of achieving."
Pupils will take part in a Ready Steady Cook-style competition and create an inexpensive healthy meal for four people, learn about nutrition and fitness, try out the facilities in the sports centre and learn more about career opportunities available to them.
