FEWER than 20 per cent of licensed businesses in Durham City have applied for a new license ahead of the approaching deadline.
Under new rules, entertainment venues and outlets selling hot food after 11pm need a new license, along with traditional pubs and clubs.
Although the law changes on November 24, there is a six-month transition period during which applicants can apply to have their license transferred.
After August 6, applications will be treated as new and will have to go through an extended procedure before licenses can be granted. For details, call 0191-301 8786.
